At one time most of my friends could hear the bell,
but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them.... Though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me as it does for all who truly believe. The Polar Express |

Jackie, it looks like you are our first birthday girl of
the year. Hope it's a great day and a happy year full of good books and luscious yarn projects. All the very best to you. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Jackie! Instead of "gifting" a book, I'm going to suggest you try out that pattern I'm doing for the Noro Silk Garden scarf!!
It's so fun to do and it's turning out sooo pretty! Instead of the Noro Silk Garden, you should use Brooks Farm Tierra Blend, Elisa's Handspun or
Rowan Tapestry (this one seems most popular). I don't know anything about these yarns personally but they are popular substitutions for the Silk Garden.

Happy Birthday Jackie!!!
And, The book I want to gift you is a debut Murder Mystery that takes place in Mykonos. It is an engaging Greek pokice procedural that readers will enjoy the island while following the investigation that will be fun to follow. A superb whodunit. Murder in Mykonos by Jeffery Siger. 279 pp. Hope you have a Great Day!! Candy |

I looked the book up on Amazon and it definitely sounds like one I'd enjoy! I'm a fan of crime
fiction set in places like ancient Rome, and even though this one is in present day Greece, since I like the fun of picturing settings I will probably never
get to visit, and getting into a good mystery at the same time, the book you "gave" me fits the bill nicely! Thank
you!

Jackie, I'll introduce you (I hope) to a new mystery series set in Iceland. The character names are a bit peculiar, like in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but
the stories are really quite good. They are by Arnaldur Indridason. I like the ones I've read so far and I hope you will too. In fact, I'll do you one
better and send you the first three which I got from the publisher. There's a catch though. I still need to read the first and second but I promise to put
them at the top of my tbr list and get them to you ASAP. If you feel comfortable doing so just send me your address via email. If not, I completely understand.

booksalot wrote:What a nice offer, Anne! Thank you! I have "Jar City" here, so I just might take you up on the others you have if I find I like this one. But if you have anyone
else in mind you might want to give them to before I get this first one read, please don't feel a need to hang on to them for me. Who knows when I'll
get to it, especially since I can't even remember where I put it at the moment!

Anne, I have heard a lot of good things about Arnaldur Indrideson's books and he is another author I have yet to get around to reading. Maybe much later
in the year. sigh

Kim hasn't been here for awhile but maybe Lee will nudge her to check in and collect birthday greetings. Happy Birthday Kim! I hope school is going well and you are as excited as we are about your brand new niece.

Jackie, I am sorry I missed your birthday, I hope it was lovely. I did come in here a couple of days late and still couldn't get a post to stick.
SO Lee had the baby? Is all well? Happy birthday to you, Kim. You got a niece as a birthday present. NOW that is what I call a devoted sister. Trudy |

And yet, part of me is still 23 maybe 25 (sometimes 6) I appreciate your graciousness about my missing the day. I do think we should all celebrate our birth on the planet. AND I would have liked to be a part of your day - I am very glad you are here! Trudy |

Hey Trudy!
Yes, we had our baby girl (Emerson Evangeline). She was 7lb, 9.8 ounces of beauty! She's getting chubbier by the day and is still sleeping almost all of the time. I nurse, on average, 3 times a night so it's not too bad (she is a fast nurser). My in laws left this morning so we're just starting to get into a routine, at last.

I'd feel a little sad if I didn't see them here!
I most definitely don't feel nearly my age mentally, but my aches and pains are a constant reminder that, yes...I really am my age!!! Bleh.

Happy Birthday Marg! | #17

I hope you have an excellent birthday and a celebration worthy of the event. I wish for you lots of wonderful historical books to read and friends to share
them with. I recommend Conceit by Mary Novik that we are reading for Genre Stew, if you haven't already read it. It is interesting in that it is based on
the women in the life of John Donne--wife, daughter, maids, etc. I don't know much about Donne but must admit this book doesn't portray him in very
favorable light.
Many good wishes to you! ![]()

Happy Birthday, Lee! | #20
Lee, I hope it is the happiest of birthdays for you. I know you have a wonderful family and you are about to move back to one of your (and my) favorite places into a beautiful new home. I wish for you great reading, trouble free knitting projects and lots of love from family and friends. I think you would really like Easter Island, which I have just started, and if you will allow me I'll send it to you once I've finished. In fact, I'll even wait until you move across the country so you won't have to worry about packing it. Let me know and if the answer is yes you can email me your new addy and an appropriate date that will find you there. Now, won't you join me in a little birthday boogie?
